The Museum’s modern, streamlined architecture provides a striking and above all authentic space for the Dornier heritage. In the form of a hangar, the Museum’s ground plan symbolically represents a runway turn-off from the Friedrichshafen Airport.

The architecture meets two very different requirements for the exhibition in a fascinating manner: On the one hand, the Hangar provides the space needed for numerous original aircraft. At the same time, the Museumsbox, which appears to hover above the foyer, forms the heart of the exhibition. It presents the rich collection of displays that have linked the name of Dornier with aeronautic history for more than 100 years.

Friedrichshafen is where the Dornier company was born. The Museum’s physical proximity to the Friedrichshafen Airport brings home to every visitor the real-life connections between the launch of aviation and air traffic today.
