The Dornier Aerospace Foundation was founded by Claude Dornier's son Silvius Dornier on August 25, 2005. It is a legally incorporated non-profit foundation and is subject to supervision by the Tübingen district authorities.
Born out of a passion for technology and aviation, the foundation aims to keep the pioneering spirit of one of Germany's most innovative companies alive and preserve its heritage for future generations.
The Dornier Museum was founded with these goals in mind. The foundation gathered exhibits from many different countries to build the collection visitors can admire there. That collection is growing steadily, not least thanks to generous donations and loans by private collectors.
The foundation is also committed to promoting academic and scientific research in aviation and aeronautics and has established a technical library for specialists in these fields which is continually being expanded.
