The Dornier Museum offers a thrilling experience and a wealth of information for technology and history buffs and aviation aficionados of all ages. Our knowledgeable staff will be happy to guide you through the exhibition and make sure you don't miss anything.


You can book guided tours in advance. We offer tours in German and a number of foreign languages, and our trained staff will be happy to put together a tour tailored to your group's special requirements and interests. They can enhance your visit to the museum by pointing out things of special interest, answering your questions, providing background information and explaining relationships that may not be readily apparent.

Standard tours (60 minutes)

From Lake Constance to the world. An introduction to the Dornier Museum.

This tour deals with the history of the Dornier company. It begins with Claude Dornier´s start as test engineer at the Zeppelin company in 1910 and ends with the sale of the company to Daimler-Benz in 1985. The visitor gets impressions of the different parts of the exhibition and impulses for his further visit.

Shape, color, play of lights. About the architecture of the Dornier Museum.

During this tour the visitor gets an impression of the visionary concept behind the design of the new Dornier Museum. The visitor goes on an architectural journey from the layout of the museum in the shape of a hangar to the lighting spectacle of James Turell.

Dornier and National Socialism. An examination of the history of the Dornier company between 1933 and 1945.

This guided tour deals with the ambivalent role of Claude Dornier and the Dornier company between 1933 and 1945. State control, armament and technical development are part of the tour as well as the employees of Dornier company. The tour also deals with the forced labourers who worked for Dornier company since 1941.

With carbon fibers into the future

This thematic tour links a 60-minute standard tour with a 30-minute tour through the special exhibition. The tour explains in an easily understandable way the production of the carbon fibers and the diversity of the fields of application. A coffee table as well as a Ducati, a violin and a foldable kayak are made of carbon fiber components.

Contemporary witness tour

Members of the Freundes- und Förderkreis Dornier Museum guide you through the exhibition. They refer to their experiences in the Dornier company and take you on a journey full of anecdotes and authentic contemporary witness stories.

Public contemporary witness tours of the Freundes- und Förderkreis Dornier Museum take plaxe every first sunday a month from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. (only in German language).

The Director’s Tour

Once in a month visitors can experience the Dornier Museum from a special point of view: Berthold Porath, director of the Dornier Museum, shows interested visitors round the exhibition. He refers to his work, tells background-stories and informs about museum news.
The Do X restaurant opens till 22 p.m. this day and offers meals and drinks to the guests.
This public tour takes place one Thursday each month from May till October from 6-7 p.m. Only the regular entrance fee is to pay. Registration is required.

Behind the scenes of the Dornier Museum. An archive tour.

There are several hidden treasures to explore in the archive of the Dornier Museum. Ingo Weidig, archivist of the Dornier Museum, grants you a look behind the scenes and provides an insight into the museological tasks of collecting, conservation and documentation. Wait and see!
This public tour takes place every last Friday each month from May to October from 3-4.30 p.m. Registration is required.
