Friedrichshafen – fascinating aerospace history

Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful areas of Germany, the Lake Constance region is a popular holiday destination with many attractions. It is a paradise for those who love swimming and other aquatic sports, and numerous hiking and bike trails crisscross the lovely countryside around the lake with its rolling hills, fruit orchards, vineyards, meadows and forests. In addition, the "tri-state area" of Germany, Austria and Switzerland around Lake Constance has many attractive destinations for day trips, museums and cultural events to offer.

Situated approximately in the middle of the German shore of the lake, Friedrichshafen is now home to two museums that reflect its importance in the history of air travel. The Zeppelin Museum reopened in 1996 and is dedicated to lighter-than-air airships. With its focus on heavier-than-air aircraft, the Dornier Museum is now making another important chapter of aviation history accessible to the public.
